Random Thought….

So you’d think a blog about random thoughts would have a lot more random thoughts than it does.

So here’s a random thought… Crap, that thought left me. Maybe I’ll remember it later.

Today, I went to eat dim sum with Adamu, Shiz, Jyun, Popo, and Ardith. Afterwards we got konnyaku tea nearby. On the way home we stopped by Ikea where Adam saved money by not buying the billy bookshelves, I saved money by getting Adamu to buy the chocolates, and Ardith saved money by not driving herself. Ok, so that doesn’t make much sense unless you understand the context.

We should have gone to Marukai or somewhere else afterwards, but instead Adamu and I went back to my place and we watched Bones and House. Yeah, I know, exciting. I got more of the ugly hat done. Just the mohawk left.

New iPad

I am now a proud owner of a new iPad. I got it as a present from Adamu, and let’s say for Valentine’s Day.

I keep on downloading new apps every day. Most of them free. Some of them I’ve paid for. I even bought keyboard for it. Which was kinda expensive I’m thinking maybe I shouldn’t, but it makes typing things so much easier.

Overall, it’s a toy I could live without, but it’s still cool.

Second Half of Comp Time

So I finally get to take the second half of my comp time. The first half was 1 week 4 days as the Friday was Christmas Eve. The second half is 2 weeks 1 day. I return to work on a Tuesday.

One of my coworkers told me to go somewhere. I thought of New York City for a week. My boss told me that NYC doesn’t have enough stuff for one week, and it’s expensive. NYC is only fun if you know what you want to do every moment you’re there apparently. That would explain why there are weekend package tours on H.I.S. Maybe I could go to D.C. or Chicago? Then I realized that the Snowmaggedon is hitting that area right about now. Scratch that plan. Having my flight cancelled or be stuck somewhere isn’t exactly what I find fun and exciting.

So I’m a SoCal girl. I like it when I don’t have to wear a heavy jacket.

So I thought, Disneyland!! For a week! Adamu shot that down real fast. He’s okay with 2 days. There’s also Knott’s Berry Farm, and he’s never been there before so it might be fun to go.

I kinda want to go to Japan as well, but it’s cold over there and I don’t know if I want to pay $1k USD for a flight. I would much rather go to Japan when the sakura trees are in bloom, too.

What to do, what to do.

DMV Morning

Today is my birthday and to celebrate it I went to the DMV in the morning. My driver’s license expired and my new one didn’t arrive in the mail. The check cleared 3 weeks prior, but I have nothing to show if I get pulled over. Even if the chances of getting pulled over is slim, I don’t want to risk it.

It only took me less than 5 minutes to get my temporary license, but 1 hour and 15 minutes to wait in line for it. I got there 15 minutes after they opened, too. Too bad there isn’t a line for people whose business takes them only all of 3 minutes. I would have been in and out in a flash.

This made me late for work, and my chiropractor appointment. This also meant no time for a free breakfast at Denny’s. Darn.

All the chain restaurants want you to sign up for their mailing list these days. The one restaurant that I did get a birthday coupon to has Friday, Saturday, Sunday blackout dates. Darn you, Benihana! …I’m still going to Benihana because it’s a good coupon! $30 off!

The best I could do on a short notice was a free guacamole coupon for El Torito. Dragged Adamu and Penny with me for lunch.

For dinner, Adamu and I did nothing. Both of us were too full from lunch. Well, we did go to Mousse Fantasy for cake. I had the chocolate cake, and Adamu the chocolate mousse cake.

Best part of my day, I found out in the freezer section of Nijiya were jars and jars of Niijima kusaya! It’s very expensive for $14, but if I ever get the munchies for fermented fish, I know where to go now!

Norton Simon

Today was the one year anniversary since I started dating Adamu. We decided to go to the Norton Simon Museum. Well, I decided that because I saw the museum on TV from the Rose Parade. Adamu took a day off.

Since we got there late (drama at home, and stuff), we only got to see the South and Southeast Asian art along with the Hiroshige wood block prints.

After the museum closed, I demanded that we pay a visit to the Apple Store on Colorado Blvd to beg the gods of Apple Computers to grant me a Verizon iPhone. I don’t know if it worked.

Dinner was at the Cheesecake Factory. I haven’t eaten there in years. Lunch was at In-N-Out.

Cookies!!

I baked mint chocolate chip cookies. I gave some to Laura and the Wassermans. The ants got the rest.

Ok. I didn’t throw away the ant infested cookies, but slowly eating them instead. My dad said that they weren’t attacking the cookies just yet. I think he was lying to me so I would eat them. After a year of eating expired foods, I don’t think a bunch of ants crawling over cookies is going to hurt me.

Happy New Year 2011!!

This year, I spent my New Year’s Eve over at the Papa and Mama W’s house. It’s where baby Ume was as well. They made a lot of food for not that many people. Adamu was invited as well.

Before we even went there, I had to prepare the osechi to eat on New Year’s Day. I prepared burdock root, lotus root (frozen), satoimo (frozen), dried shiitake, atsuage (which I found is called tofu cutlet in English), konnyaku, snow peas, and carrots. Adam watched me stumble around the kitchen. He really couldn’t help me as the instructions were in Japanese. I got it out from Kyou-no-Ryouri magazine.

I finished cooking at around 9:30 PM.

Mama and Papa W are always nice. Since I drove, I didn’t want to drink too much. Since Adamu drove from L.A., he didn’t drink much either. Since my mom was looking over baby, she didn’t drink much either as well. There was a lot of food to eat, too. Deep fried wontons, latkas, shrimps, crab and cheese stuffed mushrooms. At my mom’s suggestion, I brought cake from Italian Tomato, green tea tiramisu. I don’t think it had any mascapone cheese. I left them some sake for New Year’s Day.

Franklin was there and I had to make fun of his constant attention to his new smart phone. We also took turns playing Angry Birds on it. Heheh.

One thing I was surprised about was Dick Clark being on television. I had forgotten that he suffered a stroke. It sounded like he had a tough time speaking, but it was cool (and creepy) that he still wanted to host.

I think we left around 2 AM. Adamu left immediately after we got back to my place.

I didn’t go to sleep until 4 AM.

I woke up at 8:30 AM to begin cooking ozouni. I finished around 10:30. It came out good. We also ate the osechi I made the night before. My dad thought it was too light, but he likes his food salty. We also busted out the sake, too. Happy new year! Kanpai!

Book Overdose?

I may have been going crazy at the bookstores and library. Not to mention it’s way too easy to click add to cart on Amazon. I really have more books than time to read.

I got a great deal at the Borders on Westwood, too. Sad, really, because the great deal was due to the store closing. That’s 2 Borders I shopped at now. The other one was on 3rd Street Promenade. As long as the one in Torrance doesn’t close. Maybe I should go buy something there tomorrow. …. Maybe next month.

Workaholic

You know you’re a workaholic when your boss tell you that you’re taking comp time next week, and you’re like, “I am?”

Yes.

So, it turns out I have next week off! I can think of a bunch of things I can do, but I’m most likely going to end up just sleeping and vegging…. And visiting my cutie pie niece.

Gotta hang out with Adamu as well.
