New Bento Special!

For this week, I decided that I’m going to make something different for lunch. Instead of tamago yaki, ham, or gyoza, I’m going to make chicken. Originally, I wanted to try out the Marukome miso yaki marinade since I did win free sumo tickets from them, but unfortunately, Mitsuwa didn’t carry any of it. I settled for Kikkoman teriyaki sauce instead. I also decided to go for green beans to make ingen no goma-ae as my cooked veggie. That still leaves my bento box a bit bare, so I’m thinking of adding hoshi shiitake no tsuya-ni. It’s in June 2008 issue of Kyou no Ryouri magazine. I still have some cherry tomatoes from last week and I bought more pickles. I’ll probably slice up the red bell pepper and stick those in there, too. Add rice and some more ripe strawberries and done! Picture on Tuesday.

Sumo of a Day

Today was a rather eventful and productive day.

In the morning, I ran several errands. Bought oat hay, dropped off my tennis racquet to be restrung, shipped off Kazu’s 7-Eleven mugs, and drooled on some nice Nikkor 50mm lenses. Didn’t buy, just drooled… The photo album doesn’t count! >.>;

When I got home around noon, I decided to drink/eat the young coconut that I bought earlier in the week at Whole Foods. It took me a while to get it open as I had no clue how to. I did manage to get a hole punched in on my own and drank the water, but I didn’t know how to crack it open until I Googled it and got a hit on YouTube. Mmm, young coconut. :9

At 3:15 PM ish, I picked up my friend Franklin and we went to the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena to watch sumo wrestling. I know nothing about sumo when I signed up to win sumo tickets, but I’m very glad that I did. It was very entertaining, more entertaining than I expected it to be. I was rather excited that Asashoryu and Kotooshu were there. Two names that have been in the sumo news as of late. Asashoryu for going emo and running away to his native Mongolia, and Kotooshu to be the first European to win a big sumo tournament last week.

Each match for sumo lasted for only two minutes or so, with most of the time taken up by ritual. I think the actual wrestling lasted something like 15 seconds. The longer ones seemed to take about 30 seconds. The winner goes on to the next round.

Afterwards, dinner was at Orochon Ramen in Little Tokyo. I really do like that place. :9 今日、食べ過ぎたかも…

Error While Printing

I’ve been having a problems burning DVDs and printing. Googling for more information last night seems to lead me to reformatting as a solution, which is the last thing I want to do. I’ll try a few more things before I go all out with that. I might have to buy another external backup drive because my current one is almost full and won’t be able to take all the crap I need to back up. That’ll be later in the week if needed. >_<

Almost to RDM 75

Spent most of Sunday leveling red mage. I went from 72 to 74. Not bad. I’m about 14k into the level. After I hit 75, I’ll probably pad the job before I switch to gain merits. I spent most of the time trying to level up my gimpy dark skills by spamming Bio II as much as possible.

The white mage we got for the group near the end was really good. She was really on top of everything. Nearly all her spells landed, which made me jealous as a red mage. Subbing scholar helped her a lot.

Cookie Mayhem Weekend, Day 3

So they’re now done. Yeay! I have a bunch of sugar cookies, a bunch of shortbread cookies, and a bunch of gingerbread cookies. The sugar and gingerbread cookies are frosted with icing. I thought it’d taste like those cookies from the Torrance Bakery, but they didn’t. They’re much better. 8D I still think Smerty’s sugar cookie taste much better than the sugar cookie I made, but I think each has their own merits. (I’m very much into the chewy cookie.)

Finished Cookies

For the frosting, I used egg whites, lemon juice, and powdered sugar. Instead of cracking an egg open, I bought a jar of pasteurized egg whites. This way no one at work will blame me for their food poisoning. Heh.

Cookie Mayhem Weekend, Day 2

Baked a ton of sugar cookies. Baked a ton of gingerbread cookies. I’m not 100% sure if the cookies are supposed to taste the way they are right now. Tomorrow I’m going to be making the frosting for it. The type of cookie I made calls for royal frosting. I don’t think I’ll have time to make cupcakes tomorrow. Oh well. Maybe cupcakes will be next weekend.

Sugar Cookies

Dinner was pork and chicken okonomiyaki. We used up all the pickled ginger in the house. The aonori was of questionable age… My mom wanted to put squid in the okonomiyaki, but I said that it’s made the way I like it, not the way she likes it. (Okonomiyaki means “cooked the way you like it”.)

Sumo Tickets

A few weeks ago I entered a drawing to see sumo wrestling at the Los Angeles Sports Area. I didn’t think I would win, but on the off chance that I would I entered. Well, there was a manila envelope waiting for me when I got home. I won 2 tickets to see sumo wrestling on June 7th! Yeay! Their face value is at $140 each, which makes it the most expensive item I’ve won to date.
