I’ve only gone to the gym twice since the Santa Monica 24 Hour Fitness closed for renovations and an upgrade from Sport to Super Sport. ATVI is getting a tour of the place next week, and I signed up to go. Nothing like a little reconnaissance. I can’t wait to hit the gym during lunch again.
E3, Into the Pixel, and (Wii) U
Tuesday was the day TA let us out to go to E3. There wasn’t much I wanted to check out besides the Wii U. Playstation Vita seemed interesting, but seeing how I wasn’t a fan of the PSP, I wasn’t particularly enthusiastic about getting my hands of the new incarnation.
The most I got to see of the Wii U was from about 5 feet away. The line to play the Wii U was too long.
Also played a demo song of the new Glee Karaoke Revolution. They still had the annoying, “Glee!” chime in when you sing a note in tune. I hope they allow the option to turn that off…
The game I would have LOVED to play: StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm. It wouldn’t be there because Blizzard has their on convention to show off their new titles.
The last thing I did at E3 was go to the Into the Pixel gallery reception. It was interesting. Adamu and I got caught on video on CNN. You don’t see my face though.
Breakdown: I don’t think E3 was great this year. There weren’t that many must see titles, at least in my opinion and the opinion of my coworkers that I’ve asked. Maybe I’m getting old and jaded. I mostly went to take pictures anyways.
Star Tours
So one might expect with an awesome title on this entry would indicate that I went on the new 3D Star Tours ride at Disneyland. How I wish that was true. I did go to Disneyland on Sunday with Adamu, Jeannette, Laura, and Baby Ume. I did not get to on Star Tours. I don’t have an annual pass to go on the preview ride either. This is my disappointment…
:(
Nonetheless, I still had fun! Ume-chan was there, and I think she was having fun. Well, as much fun a 5 month old can have at Disneyland. I think the adults had more fun than her. We even went on It’s a Small World. I sang the song with the music and clapped for Ume. I think the adults had more fun with that ride than the kids because I heard other grown-ups singing along, too.
Had to leave early though. Had to go to bed so I could wake up to grab a spot at the park for the Memorial Day BBQ. Adamu was dead tired as well so it was a good thing we left early.
Glee Live!!
Got to see Glee in concert. There were a lot more adults then I would have thought originally. Still a lot of ear piercing screams at the Staples Center. Good thing I brought ear plugs. That would have hurt without them. My ears were still recovering from the Elviss show the night before.
Planning a Barbecue
So this is my first time throwing a barbecue party. It’s going to be held at the park down the street and my hope is that I’ll be able to wake up early enough to be other people out for a spot.
I’ve begun preparing by taking a trip to Costco to purchase hamburger patties and hot dogs. I really would have liked to have made handmade burgers in the morning instead of pre-made burgers, but I can’t do everything at once.
At this moment in time, I have at least 16 guests coming. I wonder if there will be more…
10 Year Anniversary of Picnic Day
Ok, so technically, I haven’t gone to UC Davis Picnic Day for all 10 years. I think I’ve only gone something like 4 times now, with this year being the 4th.
Back in December, my friend, Margaret, mentioned that 2011 would be the 10 year anniversary of the Anteater Band going to Davis, and I thought, I should go. Since I hate road tripping it (or even going on a trip that’s longer than a day), I haven’t gone much after graduating UCI.
The theme for this year was Disney. After much mental deliberation, I decided to go as Lilo from Lilo & Stitch. Hawaiian dress, Stitch plushie, and done!
I took a lot of pictures as well. They’re up on Flickr now.
Sitting On a Baby
I’m not really sitting on a baby. I was however baby sitting while my sister and brother-in-law were working on their music video shoot.
I suppose it was more like watching over baby and trying to keep her calm while they were working.
Every time I visit, she’s even cuter than the last. She’s smiling a lot more, too. Pictures on Flickr soon. :)
Light Back On!
Woohoo!! Wow, I never realized how much I would miss electricity if it was gone. Gotta be good and conserve more!
Storm Comes In, Lights Go Out
What happens when a storm comes in with huge gusting winds and tons of rain? A power outage.
I was working on my friend’s hat when the power went out at around 6:15. I made sure it wasn’t something local to our house because the neighbor to the west still has power. It’s not. The neighbors to the west and south do not have power. The street lights are out on the other street as well.
My mom suggested that I take a shower while there was some light outside. I said naw. I should have listened to her.
Instead, since there really wasn’t much to do, I decided it was nap time! Lots of naps. Adamu called sometime in the evening, and I talked to him for a while, then back to sleep. Now it’s almost midnight and there’s still no power. I guess that means it’s time to go to sleep for the evening. Yeay!
Kinda sad that I didn’t get to finish the hat, but working by candlelight suck. Oh, well.
Greens and Wakame Soup
Part of the dinner I made for my mom and sister on Sunday.
青菜とわかめのスープ
Greens and wakame soup
Serves 4. Each serving is 77kcal.
Ingredients
- 1/2 bunch (120g) komatsuna
- 20g salted wakame
- 10g niboshi (dried sardines)
- 2 tbsp sesame seed oil
A
- 1 tbsp sake
- 1-1/2 tsp salt
- pinch of finely ground white pepper
- little bit of soy sauce
- 1/2 tbsp white sesame seeds
Directions
- Cut the komatsuna to about 4 cm (~1.5 inches) length. Wash the wakame and cut to bite size pieces. Remove the heads, entrails, and bones of the sardines. (I skipped the last part simply because the sardines I bought were way too small.)
- Place the sardines in a bowl with 4 metric cups (3.4 US cups) of water. Let it sit for 30 minutes.
- In a pot, heat the sesame oil and sauté the wakame. Add the water and sardines from 2. Add the ingredients in A along with the komatsuna. Cook for 5 minutes on medium heat. Add the white sesame seeds and serve.
